This chapter will be open to graduates and undergraduates of any discipline at NCSU. We feel strongly, as historians, that part of our academic and professional mandate is to educate and inform citizens about the imbalances and inequalities created by history. To that end, we are dedicated to raising global awareness of the continuing horrors of enslavement, and we feel it is necessary to remind our students, our colleagues, and our communities that slavery is a crisis not only on the pages of ancient or American history, but in the global present. We want to lend our voices and talents to this worthy cause, toward a goal in which we implore individuals, corporations, and governments to unite in opposition to the cruelty and oppression of slavery across the globe. We are firm in our commitment to support anti-slavery organizations and to help bring about the emancipation and empowerment of enslaved peoples worldwide.
